EGYPT - November 2002

A tour on the Nile.

Karnak Temple - the largest worship place in the world covering over 100 acres, known to the egyptians as Ipet-Isut. This is the Great Hypostyle Hall which was supported by 134 columns.

The hall was the setting of the famous scene from the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. In this scene, Roger Moore and Barbara Bach are chased around the columns by Jaws.

Inside the Temple of Philae. The temple was rellocated between 1972 and 1980 to it's current location after being submerged in the Nile following the building of the Aswan Dam in 1902.

The smaller Temple of Hathor, part of the Philae Temple, contains reliefs of musical instruments and musicians.

The temple at Abu Simbel. This is another temple that was rellocated following the flooding of the Nile. The temple changes colour at sunrise from a deep red to grey.

The facade of the temple is 4 statues of Ramses II, depicting him at different ages. The figures are positioned so that all men are beneath the feet of the pharoah.
